Juicer is a household appliance, that may seem unnecessary at first glance, however, when you’re starting to use it, it will be hard to abandon it later. Juicer is particularly good in the summer, when the gardens and orchards are full of fresh fruits, and the shelves are bursting with their abundance. Fresh fruits and vegetables are beneficial to everyone, but not everyone likes it, and there is one “but”. If you turn this gift of nature into a juice, nothing will leave from the initial taste, and the process of taking vitamins will turn from need to pleasure. Plus, when you use a juicer, vegetables and fruits are almost not processed, and therefore they are full of nutrients nearly as much as ripped straight in the garden.
But too much depends on the instruments, that used to obtain this juice. How to choose, what to pay attention to, and how to apply – read on.
First, let’s note, that most of the juicers that you find in ordinary appliance stores – are designed exclusively for domestic use. So if you want to process all the seasonal harvest of apples, you just need to pay attention to other devices.
It should also be mentioned that there are several types of juicers:
• Citrus juicers – as the name suggests, it’s designed for only one kind of fruit. However, they are popular. They can use different nozzles and include additional features (reverse – rotation in different directions to obtain the maximum amount of juice; pulp control system etc.);
• Masticating juicers – used for those types of fruits that have seeds. They resemble grinders, and, while working, not just get the juice, but also separate the unnecessary items;
• Centrifugal juicers – the most versatile and popular juicer, that is suitable for most types of fruits.
Centrifugal juicers, themselves, are divided into 2 types. Each device has a separator element, that is used to separate fruit flesh and to “extract” juice.
They can be conical and cylindrical. First are more popular, because they are very easy to use and automatically remove the flesh.
They work, turning fruits into puree, and the, under the action of centrifugal forces, spin the cylinder. In the end, juice released from the formed substance.
In the case of a cylindrical system, you will get just a little more quantity of juice in the ratio of each fruit, but the remains will not be separated, so you will have to dissemble the unit to remove the trash.
Next, we should talk about, what to look for, when buying a juicer.
This value directly affects, what kind of fruit will work on the machine, how long it can be continuously activated and how the variable modes can be configured for different types of vegetables and fruits.
From 80 to 400 Watts – it’s the power of citrus juicers and simplest centrifugal ones;
600-800 Watts – is the most common model, because it is moderately consume electricity, but it can work with a large number of fruits;
800-1200 Watts – the real monsters, its power can compare with the grinder.
This is one of the most important indicators, but be careful when you decide to focus on it, when choosing unknown brands juicers. They can cheat, to attract consumers by dry numbers. In fact, such device will just consume more electricity, which will not affect its performance.
The number of revolutions
This indicator directly depends on the previous one. In most cases, the number can vary from 4500 to 8000. But it is better to choose model, that offers fewer turnovers, but the possibility of their regulation. Even if your device has optimal 6000, it can be embarrassing for both soft and hard fruits. Therefore, the ability to manually adjust the speed is important. The degree of gradation in expensive juicers is divided into 9 degrees, but 2-3 is also enough. Some of them may also have the “reverse” function, which will direct the centrifuge in the opposite direction, to squeeze a few extra drops of juice.
Juice tank capacity
This is the least important of all the requirements for the juicer, because it takes only a few seconds to pour the juice from a special container into a glass or bowl, after which you can continue to work. However, the volume of these bowls can vary from 0.5 to 2 liters.
Some juicers come in the kit with multiple replaceable blades, that are used for different kind of vegetables or for manual regulation of the fruits flesh.
If we talk about the little things, your juicer must have rubber legs, that will securely hold devices on the table, allowing it not to slip off by vibration.
Some juicers, especially not expensive ones, have simple fuses. They are designed to stop the juicer, if device is overheated or there is any other problem. The problem is that such things are mainly found only in the best devices, which, in fact, is not so easy to break, but cheapest ones have no fuses, and not all consumers are used to read the user manual before using. Therefore, you should immediately ask whether there is such item in your juice extractor, and, in case of absence, to be even more careful. And, of course, it helps in in the case of voltage drop.
Smooth engine start is one additional feature, which guarantees, that all fruits and vegetables will be grinded by far.
When buying, you should also pay attention to the hole for the fruits. If it is too small, you will spend too much time, trying to grind your fruits (and maybe you lose a few drops of the precious juice). And don’t forget about a special pen for pushing the fruits and vegetables to the blades.
Also pay attention to the special brushes for cleaning. They are extremely important, because the separators have many small parts, that can be cleaned by hands or a common washer. If remains of the fruit are stuck there, there is a risk to spoil the juice, that you will prepare in the future.
Pay attention to the manufacturer’s instructions about the dishwasher. Some of them are absolutely contraindicated to wash by this way. Others are specially designed for this.
Even though centrifugal juicers are more versatile and suitable to work with different fruits, if it’s possible – it’s highly advisable to purchase a separate device for citrus. It ensures that you get maximum juice from this type of fruits. Plus, the seeds that are found in most oranges, grapefruits, etc. may damage a centrifugal juicer or spoil the taste of the juice, and removing of them sometimes is too uncomfortable.
Juicer is a very useful and indispensable thing, especially in the warm season when the diet consists in more than a half of fresh vegetables and fruits. Juices are extremely healthy and will appeal even to those who doesn’t like fresh ones.
Juicers come in 3 types, and each of them can be used simultaneously with others. Citrus juicer provides the best result when working with this type of fruit.
It gives maximum amount of juice, gets rid of waste. Masticating juicers are great for fruits with lots of seeds. According to the principle of work it’s something like a meat grinder, but instead of minced meat it makes the juice and disposes the waste.
Centrifugal juicers are the most universal tools. However, it requires a little more work, somehow, to cut fruit, get rid of the skins, bones and so on.
Centrifugal juicers are divided into 2 types, which differ in the type of separator. Cylindrical gives more juice, but in the process you will need to manually get rid of waste. Cone separators are slightly less efficient, but the whole process is automated.
You have to decide what is more important to you in your future juicer, to consider the best options from trusted brands, be sure to check everything, even the smallest, features and start to cook delicious and healthy juices.
