Before you repost that unbelievable clip, try this three-step pause
A surprising video is designed to interrupt your attention. Before passing it on, take a short pause to distinguish what the clip shows from what the caption claims. The two can tell very different stories.
Find the earliest useful context
Look for the original uploader, an earlier version or a longer recording. A clip can be real while its date, location or description is wrong. Repeated reposts are not independent confirmation when they all trace back to the same unexplained source.
Inspect the claim separately
Write the claim in one sentence. Then ask what evidence would verify it. A dramatic reaction, a large view count and confident comments do not establish the event’s location or cause.
Decide whether sharing helps
If the essential details remain uncertain, save the post instead of broadcasting it as fact. You can also share a verified explanation later. This is not a demand to investigate every joke. It is a practical habit for posts that could affect someone’s reputation, safety or understanding of a real event. A few minutes of restraint can prevent a confident caption from doing more work than the evidence.
